FIFA FAQ

The FIFA World Cup is coming to Vancouver June 11 – July 19!

Throughout the World Cup tournament there will be many events and offerings taking place around the city – including our entirely sport-ified Theatresports: Totally Ref’d Up, and the Granville Island Watch Party, which plans to show ninety-four matches over the course of the tournament.

With the excitement comes an influx of visitors, which means there will be some changes to how you can access the island and move around the city. And we’re here with tips!

Getting Here

For the duration of the World Cup, we recommend leaving additional time to travel to Granville Island. Traffic volumes are expected to be heavier with high demand for limited parking. We highly recommend using public transportation, or arriving by bike, scooter, or ferry.

Via Bike/Scooter

Free valet bike and scooter parking is available during the summer from 10am to 7pm, with extended hours during the Granville Island Watch Party. Find out more here

There are also many bike racks located conveniently throughout the Island. Be sure to use a sturdy lock and fasten your bike securely.

Mobi Bikeshare stations and Lime E-Scooter stations are located on-island, though availability may be limited.

Via Public Transit

Skytrains and busses will be more frequent during the World Cup to account for the influx in visitors to the city, with some detours due to downtown closures. Find out more here.

The #50 Waterfront-False Creek bus from Gastown stops at the entrance to Granville Island. You can also catch a number of busses that stop at Granville & 5th Ave, or walk 30-minutes along the seawall from Olympic Village Skytrain Station.

For more help with your route, see Translink’s trip planner here.

Via Ferry

The False Creek Ferries and Aquabus offer quick, scenic, and affordable rides across False Creek to Granville Island. Both services connect the Island to downtown, Yaletown, Olympic Village, and other key locations, with extended hours throughout the tournament.

Via Car

Road closures related to the World Cup may affect your travel. See a list of closures here.

Parking is expected to be extremely limited, so consider leaving extra time to find an available space. Pay parking is in effect 9 AM–10 PM, 7 days a week.

Evo Car Share vehicles are allowed to park anywhere on the island, with four reserved stalls. For electric vehicles, there are six Level II 30A car charging stations available on the main level of the Old Bridge Street Indoor Lot

Early/Late Arrivals

Our lounge always opens 1 hour prior to the start of our first performance that day. Feel free to come early and take in our waterfront patio with a selection of snacks, and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages.

In the event you arrive after the show has started, our venue staff will help get you seated as soon as possible during an appropriate break in the show.

Restaurants

If you’re planning to visit a restaurant before or after a show, consider making a reservation to secure your spot. Need some inspiration? Visit one of our on-island restaurant partners before or after a show and get a discount on your meal! See a full list here.

The Public Market will be open from 9AM-6PM on Monday-Wednesday, and 9AM-7PM on Thursday-Sunday and stat holidays.
