FAQ

How often do auditions happen?

Auditions for our Mainstage Ensemble happen every two years. Our House Teams Program holds intake auditions every six months.

Do I need professional experience?

While we welcome submissions from performers of all backgrounds and experience levels, priority will be given to applicants with improv experience.

Can I apply for both MainStage Ensemble and House Teams?

Yes, you can! In the application form you can specify what you’re interested in: MainStage Ensemble, House Teams Program, or both!

Is this a paid audition?

No, this is not a paid audition opportunity. We greatly appreciate your time and the time it takes to prepare your application.

What if I’m unavailable during part of the audition window?

Unfortunately, if you’re unavailable during this window, we won’t be able to consider you. Improv is a hugely collaborative art form, and it’s crucial that we see how you perform with others.

I have an accessibility issues or am otherwise facing a barrier to auditioning, is TIC willing to find a solution?

For performers who have barriers to access to any part of our process as laid out, please reach out to us at auditions@theimprovcentre.ca and we will happily find a way to see your audition.

The Improv Centre welcomes and supports people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited to, people of any sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, social or economic class, educational level, colour, immigration status, sex, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental or physical ability.

Our mission is to train and showcase excellence in improv comedy and theatre that reflects, engages, and challenges our audiences. We are committed to maintaining the high artistic standards that our audiences, community partners, and theatres around the world have come to expect from The Improv Centre.

While we welcome submissions from performers of all backgrounds and experience levels, priority will be given to applicants with improv experience.

When putting together our Mainstage Ensemble and House Teams, we consider how different skill sets, styles, and energies complement one another to create a balanced, supportive ensemble with strong chemistry. Because this process involves many moving pieces, please know that a casting decision is never a final verdict on your talent or value as an improviser.

Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we will not be able to offer everyone an audition. However, all applicants will receive a response regardless of the outcome.

Thank you for bringing your creativity and passion to our theatre. We look forward to seeing your work!

What to Expect

We want you to know what you’re walking into at an audition here at TIC. When it comes to who you are auditioning for, you can expect to see a collection of faces from all over Vancouver’s improv community.

For your audition:

  • No prepared material is required
  • Auditions consist of improv exercises and scene work
  • You’ll be performing in a group setting

We’re not looking for a specific style – we’re looking for strong listeners, supportive players, and performers who can build collaboratively.

Who should apply?

We’re looking for improvisers who are:

  • Experienced (improv training and/or performance background)
  • Comfortable performing unscripted, audience-driven work
  • Strong ensemble players who support and elevate others
  • Available for evening and weekend performances and rehearsals

We value collaboration, adaptability, and are committed to creating a creative environment to foster inclusive and respectful performances.

Application Deadline

All applications must be submitted before 11:59pm on July 8th, 2026.
